Weather & Environment calculators
Interpret weather conditions, sunlight, moisture, and environmental measurements.
Tool map
What are you trying to work out?
Weather and environment calculators turn raw readings into conditions you can actually act on: how the air feels, how much moisture it holds, how much sun you can expect, and when frost is likely to end. Each tool starts from a specific measurement or simple input rather than a forecast. The dew point calculator combines air temperature with relative humidity to show the temperature at which the air would become saturated — a more stable gauge of moisture than humidity alone. The wind chill calculator applies the official wind-chill equation to a temperature and wind speed so you can see what the cold actually feels like on exposed skin. And when you need to know what the sun will do, the daylight hours calculator estimates sunrise, sunset, and day length from a latitude and a date, including polar-day and polar-night cases.
To choose the right tool, start from the condition you can actually measure, then confirm the units and location assumptions the calculator expects. If you have a thermometer and a humidity reading, dew point is the natural next step; if you have temperature and wind speed, wind chill is. Daylight hours needs a latitude, not a city name, so pick coordinates that reflect your real location rather than the nearest town. For planting decisions, the gardening frost date calculator works from your hardiness zone and crop sensitivity to estimate spring and fall frost windows — useful precisely because it is based on historical averages, not this week’s outlook.
These tools are honest about their limits, and it pays to respect them. A frost date is a climatological estimate, not a guarantee for a given year; a wind-chill value only applies within the equation’s official thresholds; and readings from your own thermometer or weather station can differ from nearby official instruments because of local terrain and exposure. When conditions are genuinely severe, treat safety guidance from weather services — heat, cold, and wind warnings — as the priority over any number a calculator produces. If you need a live forecast, what’s coming next, or emergency guidance, this tool family is the wrong fit; these calculators interpret measurements and averages, not predictions.

Frequently asked questions
- What does the daylight-hours estimate include?
- It estimates astronomical day length from latitude and date. The result includes total daylight, approximate local solar sunrise, approximate local solar sunset, and solar noon. It does not use longitude, time zone, elevation, local horizon, atmospheric refraction, or daylight saving time.
- Why does the calculator only need latitude and date?
- Day length is mainly controlled by latitude and Earth's seasonal tilt on a given date. Longitude affects clock time, not the length of daylight. Because this tool reports local solar time, it can estimate duration without asking for a time zone or city.
- Can it calculate polar day and polar night?
- Yes. If the sun-angle geometry indicates continuous daylight, it returns 24 hours and labels polar day. If the geometry indicates no sunrise, it returns zero hours and labels polar night. The calculation also includes special solstice checks above 66.5 degrees latitude.
