Sports & Performance calculators
Estimate pace, training loads, cycling setup, and sport performance measures.

What are you trying to work out?
Whether you are pacing a race, setting up a bike, or planning a strength session, sports performance comes down to a handful of numbers you can estimate before you line up. The Sports & Performance tools cover pace and endurance (like the Running Pace Calculator and the Half Marathon Pace Calculator), cycling setup and effort (the Bicycle Gear Calculator, plus gearing, cadence, and power tools), and strength training loads (the One Rep Max Calculator, which estimates a one-rep maximum from a completed set). Each tool turns the inputs you already have — a finish time, a distance, a chainring and cassette, a set of reps — into a number you can plan around.
Start with the tool that matches your sport and the decision you are making. For running, enter the distance and target finish time to get the pace per mile or kilometer you need to hold; the half-marathon pace tool extends that to cumulative splits for race day. For cycling, begin with gearing — tooth counts and a measured wheel rollout give you gear ratio and the speed you can expect at a chosen cadence — and move to power estimates only when you want to model resistance, wind, and efficiency on top of that. For strength, base the estimate on a set you can actually complete, and remember that 1RM formulas like Epley and Brzycki are predictive, not measured. When the goal is a raw performance measure rather than a plan, tools for jump height, stride length, or reaction time fill that gap.
These tools are estimates, and the assumptions matter. Performance changes with conditions and fatigue: a pace that holds on a cool flat course may not survive heat or hills, and a power estimate built on assumed drag and rolling resistance is only as good as those inputs. Device readings — a watch pace, a cadence sensor, a smart trainer — can differ from what you measure yourself, so treat the calculator output as a planning figure, not a record. None of these tools replaces coaching or medical advice: if you are returning from injury, unwell, or new to a sport, check with a professional before pushing toward a computed target.

Frequently asked questions
- What does this calculator measure?
- It calculates an ideal two-dimensional projectile scenario from the initial speed, launch angle, and release height you enter, using standard gravity of 9.80665 meters per second squared and assuming no air resistance and a level landing datum. The result is not an actual or official shot-put distance.
- How is the launch angle used?
- The launch angle above horizontal is converted to radians by multiplying by pi divided by 180. The horizontal and vertical components of the entered speed are then used to find flight time, apex height, and horizontal displacement.
- Where does the horizontal displacement start?
- Horizontal displacement starts at the release point, not at an official measurement origin. The scenario starts at x equals 0 and the entered release height, and each calculated output is rounded independently to two digits after the decimal point.
