The concrete calculator and the square footage calculator are two stages of the same mental workflow, and the square footage page says so: once the area is known, pair it with a material calculator such as concrete. Square footage gives you the two-dimensional area of a floor, slab, or wall. Concrete adds the third dimension and the purchasing math — volume in cubic yards and cubic feet, whole bags from an entered yield, and dry-mix weight from the bag count.
What each calculator does
The square footage calculator computes area from the shape you choose — length times width for a rectangle, π times the radius squared for a circle, or base times height over two for a triangle — after converting dimensions to a common unit. For rectangles it also reports perimeter, and it can multiply the unrounded area by an optional cost per square foot. It takes no depth input and infers no waste or material quantities.
The concrete calculator handles slabs, columns, tubes, curbs, and stairs. It calculates shape volume in cubic feet, applies the waste allowance once, divides by the yield per bag you enter, and rounds bags up only after that division; estimated dry-mix weight is the rounded bag count multiplied by the entered bag weight. In its worked arithmetic a 10 by 10 foot slab at 4 inches thick is about 33.33 cubic feet; with 10 percent waste that is about 1.36 cubic yards, which at a 0.6 cubic foot per bag yield rounds up to 62 bags and about 4,960 pounds of dry mix at 80 pounds per bag.

When to use which
Use the square footage calculator when you are measuring a space and the answer you need is area: room size, floor space, or the footprint of a slab before thickness matters. It is also the right tool for the non-concrete parts of a project, such as checking a rectangle’s perimeter for trim or multiplying area by a per-square-foot price.
Use the concrete calculator when you have the shape dimensions including thickness and the question is how much concrete to order. The 0.6 cubic foot yield and 80 pound weight shown initially are editable planning assumptions — an 80 pound bag does not have a universal yield, so use the yield printed for the product you plan to buy. Limits and disclaimer
Both pages are educational planning tools. Square footage is gross geometric area with no allowance for waste or excluded areas. Concrete is a geometric material estimate whose volume, bag count, and weight depend on the dimensions, waste, yield, and bag weight you enter; subgrade, forms, spillage, reinforcement, placement, and structural requirements are separate, and qualified trades and adopted codes control safety-critical work.
