What each calculator does
The swimming speed calculator takes a swim distance and elapsed seconds. Average speed is converted to meters per second, pace per 100 meters is 100 divided by that speed, and the pool length you choose converts the distance to equivalent lengths, which may be fractional. Projected times apply the same average pace across a chosen distance and do not adjust for stroke; starts, turns, and rests count only insofar as they are present in the elapsed time. The stride length calculator takes a measured distance and repeated counted-step trials. Each trial length equals the measured distance divided by the counted steps for that trial; the first trial is the central display and all entered trials define the observed range. Over 10 meters, counts of 14, 13, and 15 steps give 0.71 meters per step for trial 1 and an observed range of 0.67 to 0.77 meters per step. Calculations use unrounded values with rounding only for display.
