Running Pace vs Stride Length
Both calculators are runner- and walker-facing measurement tools in the same sports-performance family, and the stride length page explicitly pairs with the running pace calculator for distance and time planning. They answer different questions about the same activity. The running pace calculator is a solver: give it any two of distance, time, and pace, and it computes the missing one. The stride length calculator is a protocol-based measurement: divide a known distance by counted steps to see how long each step actually is, with an observed range across repeated trials. Neither tool makes performance, training, or injury claims about the result.
The two tools also share a design stance: both keep unrounded intermediate values with rounding only for display, and both reject empty, invalid, negative, impossible, or unsupported inputs rather than returning a misleading number.
What each calculator does
The running pace calculator solves pace, elapsed time, or distance in miles or kilometers. You choose the quantity you want, enter the other two, and the calculator works in raw seconds so intermediate values keep full precision. Distance conversion uses exactly 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers. Stops, course measurement, terrain, and conditions are outside the arithmetic, so the result is a planning value tied to the pace, time, and distance relationships.
The stride length calculator estimates step length from a measured distance and repeated counted-step trials. Each trial length equals the measured distance divided by the counted steps for that trial. The first trial is the central display, and all entered trials define the observed range. In the page’s worked example, 10 meters covered in 14, 13, and 15 steps gives 0.71 m/step for trial 1 and an observed range of 0.67-0.77 m/step. The result describes only the trials you entered and is not an individualized gait, performance, training, or injury recommendation.

When to use which
Use the running pace calculator when the question is about planning or reconstructing a run: the time a 10K at a target pace would take, the pace of a run you just finished, or the distance covered in a block of time. Use the stride length calculator when the question is measurement of the step itself: mark a known distance, count your steps over it, repeat the trial a few times, and it reports your step length and the observed range — useful for pairing with pace planning, as the stride length page suggests. Keep input precision consistent with the measurements you actually have in both cases. Neither tool interprets its result as performance, training, or injury guidance.
