What each calculator does

Every conversion runs through the fixed factor 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers and its reciprocal: min/mile = min/km × 1.609344, and km/h = 60 ÷ min/km. Pace displays round only at the final second, so 5.5 min/km becomes 8:51 min/mi, while companion speed rows display two decimals. The speed converter accepts a value, a from-unit, and a to-unit among kilometers per hour, miles per hour, meters per second, and knots. It generally converts the source value to km/h first — mph × 1.609344, m/s × 3.6, knots × 1.852 — then converts to the target, with direct directional factors for several knot paths (1.15078 mph per knot, 0.868976 knots per mph, 1.94384 knots per m/s). When to use which

Use the pace converter when the question is expressed in pace: a 5:30/km workout converted to min/mile, a treadmill mph setting converted to minutes per kilometer, or checking that 6:00/km is exactly 10.00 km/h. Use the speed converter when the question is raw speed across domains: a weather report in knots discussed with a driver, a physics value in m/s needing a public-facing km/h comparison, or an aviation airspeed converted for explanation. The page notes that in running and cycling, speed can be useful for comparing performances, but pace may be easier for workouts — at which point the pace converter is the better match.

Limits and disclaimer

Both converters are unit-math tools, not measurements. The pace converter warns that a converted value can differ from a measured split because of course distance, timing precision, and rounding, and it rejects empty, invalid, negative, or zero-denominator inputs rather than showing a misleading result. The speed converter warns against treating knots as mph (a nautical mile is longer than a statute mile), against mixing rounded values in chains of calculation, and against using it for fuel economy, since MPG and L/100km are reciprocal-style efficiency measures rather than linear speed units. Neither page claims the precision of a calibrated instrument.
