What each calculator does
The total laundry time calculator requires whole numbers of loads and machines and computes cycles per machine = ceil(loads ÷ machines). Total elapsed time = cycles per machine × (wash time + dry time) + (pretreatment time + folding time) × loads, because wash and dry run by machine rounds while pretreatment and folding stay per load. Built-in cycle times: wash from 30 minutes (quick) to 90 (bulky), dry from 30 (quick) to 120 (bulky), plus 5 minutes pretreatment and 10 minutes folding per load. In the worked example, 3 loads with normal wash and dry plus folding on one machine is 300 minutes (5 hours), and the same 3 loads on 2 machines drop to 210 minutes.
The chore time calculator picks a base time for one selected task and computes adjusted minutes = base minutes × size adjustment × (1 + condition adjustment) × rooms. Small, medium, and large homes use 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2; conditions add 0.2 for high traffic, 0.3 for pets, 0.25 for children, 0.15 for allergies, and 0.25 for detailed cleaning. Base times include a 12-minute quick kitchen clean, 17-minute dishes, 25-minute bathroom cleaning, 150-minute laundry, 37-minute appliance cleaning, and 360-minute seasonal deep cleaning. Recurring tasks convert to weekly time: daily × 7, weekly × 1, monthly ÷ 4, seasonal ÷ 13.

When to use which
Use the laundry time calculator when laundry is the question: does a session fit before bedtime, is a laundromat trip worth it, how many machines should you reserve, or does bulky bedding need its own block? It separates the timed steps so you can see whether drying, folding, or the wash cycle itself is the bottleneck.
Use the chore time calculator when the question spans chores: how does laundry compare with vacuuming, dishes, or a seasonal decluttering project, and what does the whole routine cost in time? It is also the tool that produces a weekly time investment, because it applies frequency conversions for recurring tasks.
Limits and disclaimer
Both pages are scheduling estimates, not promises. The laundry time calculator uses fixed cycle-length assumptions and counts wash and dry by machine rounds, so the breakdown can exceed the total when machines run in parallel; it also ignores transfer time, waiting, travel, and putting clothes away. The chore time calculator’s base times are anchors, and its room count multiplies spaces cleaned, not people helping. Real times vary with equipment, load composition, clutter, and interruptions, so treat either result as a planning block rather than a schedule guarantee.
