What each calculator does
The glycemic index calculator takes a glucose-scale GI value, available carbohydrate per serving, and servings, then computes GL = GI × available carbohydrate × servings / 100. It classifies the unrounded result: low at or below 10, intermediate above 10 and below 20, and high at or above 20, and it also labels the entered GI against published categories (low at or below 55, intermediate 56–69, high at or above 70). Decimal GI values in the unstated intervals between those category statements receive no GI category, while the numeric GL calculation continues. A one-serving mode applies the same formula without a servings control. The page is explicit that GI is a standardized food test based on incremental glucose area under the curve and does not predict an individual’s glucose response.
The meal calorie calculator takes calories per serving and quantity, then computes total calories = calories per serving × quantity, rounded to a whole calorie for display. Quantity starts at one serving and accepts decimals at or above one, and negative calories are rejected. The calculator repeats both entered values so the multiplication stays visible, and it does not identify the food, judge meal quality, or calculate protein, carbohydrate, fat, fiber, or any other nutrient — it only scales a known per-serving value.

Use the glycemic index calculator when your question is about carbohydrate quality: what glycemic load a serving of a food produces, and how that serving compares with published GI categories.
