Weighted GPA Calculator

Calculate weighted and unweighted GPA from course grades, credits, and course type. The form supports 1 to 6 courses, with a grade, credit value, and Regular, Honors, or AP/IB type for each course.

How to use this calculator

  1. Select the number of courses.
  2. Choose each course grade from A+ through F.
  3. Enter credits for each course.
  4. Select Regular, Honors, or AP/IB.
  5. Review weighted GPA, unweighted GPA, total credits, and course counts by type.

Credits must add to more than zero. If you need a more general weighted calculation, use the weighted average calculator.

How it works

The calculator uses a standard 4.0 grade point table with plus and minus grades. It then adds course weight: regular +0.0, honors +0.5, and AP/IB +1.0 grade points.

weighted GPA=total weighted points÷total creditsweighted\ GPA = total\ weighted\ points \div total\ credits

Worked example

A 3-credit A in an AP course earns 5.0 weighted points per credit, or 15 weighted points. A 3-credit B in a regular course earns 3.0 points per credit, or 9 points. Together:

24÷6=4.0024 \div 6 = 4.00

The weighted GPA is 4.00, while the unweighted GPA is lower because it excludes course boosts.

Important GPA notes

School policies vary. Some cap weighted GPA, exclude certain courses, or handle dual enrollment differently. Use the result for planning, then verify official calculations with your school. For grade-category scoring rather than transcript GPA, the percentage calculator and statistics calculator may help check individual results.

Frequently asked questions

How does this weighted GPA calculator weight classes?
Regular courses add 0.0 points, honors courses add 0.5 points, and AP or IB courses add 1.0 point to the grade point value.
Does the calculator include course credits?
Yes. Each course grade is multiplied by its credits, so higher-credit courses affect the GPA more.
How many courses can I enter?
You can select 1 to 6 courses, then enter each grade, credits, and course type.
Is this my official transcript GPA?
No. Schools may use different grade scales and weighting policies, so use this for planning and confirm official rules with your school.
