Both the carb calculator and the fiber calculator are Food-category tools built on Dietary Reference Intakes for generally healthy adults, but they model different parts of the same nutrition label. The carb calculator works forward: it estimates a daily carbohydrate reference range from a resting-energy calculation and an activity scenario. The fiber calculator works backward: it totals the fiber you entered across servings and compares that total with the adult Adequate Intake (AI) row for the selected sex and age. The genuine choice is about which question you are asking — “what daily carb range fits this calorie scenario?” versus “how does the fiber I entered compare with a reference?”

Neither calculator is a clinical diet prescription. Both produce population-reference comparisons, and both tell you to verify label serving sizes and current guidance before acting on a number.

What each calculator does

The carb calculator estimates a reference range, not an individual recommendation. It uses the Mifflin equation to estimate resting energy (for example, 1,717.5 kcal for a 30-year-old male at 75 kg and 178 cm), rounds resting energy times one of five scenario multipliers (1.2 to 1.9) to get an estimated calorie scenario, then converts 45–65% of that scenario to grams at 4 kcal per gram. The lower bound cannot fall below the adult carbohydrate RDA of 130 g/day, and ages are limited to 19–78. For the worked example, a 2,662 kcal scenario gives a displayed range of 299–433 g/day.

The fiber calculator is limited to adults age 19 and older. It computes total fiber as fiber per serving times servings, then reports the signed difference from the AI row: 38 g/day for males 19–50, 30 g/day for males 51 and older, 25 g/day for females 19–50, and 21 g/day for females 51 and older. In the worked example, 5 g per serving times two servings gives 10.0 g total, and against the 25 g female reference the signed difference is −15.0 g.

Use the carb calculator when you are planning a daily carbohydrate reference range from a calorie scenario, and use the fiber calculator when you are totaling label fiber across servings against an adult reference. The values come from different DRI constructs — an Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range and an Adequate Intake — so the numbers should not be treated as competing answers to the same question. Neither tool establishes an individual requirement, and both exclude the clinical or child populations their references do not support. Confirm the serving sizes you enter match the label, and treat any difference as a comparison with a population reference, not a personal prescription.
