These table values are force equivalents. They should not be copied into mass conversion, density, or shipping-weight calculations without checking the physical quantity being measured.
Common domains
Load cells, tensile tests, hanging weights, spring ratings, cable pulls, and actuator thrust may use either newtons or pound-force. In statics, forces balance in equations, so all forces should be in consistent units before summing them. In dynamics, newtons pair naturally with kilograms and meters per second squared, while pound-force pairs with slug-based or carefully converted customary calculations.
Fastener documents are a common source of confusion. A bolt preload may be a force in lbf or kN, but a tightening specification may be torque in lbf ft or N m. Those are not the same. Convert the force only if the unit is force alone. If the number contains feet, inches, or meters multiplied by force, it is torque.
Pitfalls to avoid
Do not assume every label that says lb is a mass value. In many mechanical contexts, lb is shorthand for lbf, but in shipping, chemistry, and body-weight contexts it usually means mass or weight in everyday language.
