How to use this calculator

Enter the distance, choose miles or kilometers, enter fuel efficiency, choose MPG or liters per 100 kilometers, then enter fuel price and currency. Turn on round trip to double the entered distance. Formula

For MPG:

$fuel\ used = distance\ in\ miles \div MPG$

For liters per 100 kilometers:

$fuel\ used = distance\ in\ kilometers \times L/100km \div 100$

Then:

$trip\ cost = fuel\ used \times fuel\ price$

Example

A 100 mile one-way trip at 25 MPG uses 4 gallons. At 3.50 dollars per gallon, fuel cost is 14 dollars. If round trip is selected, the distance becomes 200 miles and the fuel cost doubles to 28 dollars.

Interpreting the result

Fuel price is interpreted per gallon when MPG is selected and per liter when L/100 km is selected. Real-world results can vary with traffic, speed, cargo, weather, and terrain. For unit conversion checks, see the fuel economy converter.

Frequently asked questions

Does round trip double the distance?

Yes. When round trip is selected, the calculator doubles the entered distance before estimating fuel used and cost.

Is fuel price per gallon or per liter?

Fuel price is treated as price per gallon with MPG and price per liter with liters per 100 kilometers.

Can I mix miles with liters per 100 kilometers?

Yes. The calculator converts distance internally when the distance unit and efficiency unit differ.

Does this include tolls or maintenance?

No. It estimates fuel only and does not include tolls, parking, maintenance, depreciation, or insurance.
