Latest update:

Some ecological questions do not fit neatly into emissions or waste categories, and these tools answer them by comparing your own numbers against a scenario you choose. The home energy efficiency calculator compares billed annual electricity per conditioned square foot with an intensity you enter — a fast outlier check before commissioning an audit. The tree benefits calculator scales user-selected per-tree-year model outputs by tree count, useful for estimating planting programs from published figures. Every factor stays visible and unit-labeled, so results read as comparisons, not authoritative measurements. For the water side of a household, the water demand calculator adds daily and annual totals, and the rest of the Ecology collection covers emissions and waste scenarios.

Frequently asked questions

How is electricity intensity calculated?
Each intensity is annual kWh divided by conditioned floor area in square feet. For example, 12,000 kWh over 1,500 ft² is 8.00 kWh per square foot per year.
What does the percentage difference mean?
It is the arithmetic difference between the two entered scenarios: (billed kWh − scenario kWh) ÷ billed kWh × 100. Equal use gives 0.0%, and a higher comparison use gives a negative difference. It is not a promised saving.
Is this an ENERGY STAR score?
No. The result is not an ENERGY STAR score, efficiency diagnosis, audit, forecast, or promised saving. It only compares the billed scenario with an alternative scenario you enter.
