Age vs Time Duration
The age calculator and the time duration calculator both answer “how much time has passed,” but they measure different kinds of time. The age calculator measures calendar time between two dates: a birth date and an age-at date, broken into completed years, leftover months, and days, with a next-birthday countdown. The time duration calculator measures clock time between two times of day, or adds and subtracts intervals on a 24-hour clock. The choice between them is really the choice between a calendar question and a clock question — and each page points to the other for the case it does not cover.
What each calculator does
The Age Calculator takes a birth date and an age-at date (date-only inputs). It compares months and days, borrows from the previous month when needed, and returns completed years plus leftover calendar months and days. It also reports total months, weeks, and days, the weekday born, and days until the next birthday. February 29 birthdays use February 28 as the anniversary in a non-leap year. In the worked example, a June 15, 1990 birth date as of July 13, 2025 gives 35 years with a hint of 0 months, 28 days, 420 total months, and 1,830 total weeks. Time of day and time zone do not affect the result.
The Time Duration Calculator has three modes. Difference mode converts a start and end clock time to seconds after midnight and, when the end is earlier than the start, adds one 24-hour day so “23:10:15 to 01:05:45” reports a forward duration. Add mode answers “what time will it be after this interval?” and subtract mode counts backward from a deadline; both wrap the answer within a 24-hour clock. Totals express the same duration in single units — total hours for billing decimals, total minutes for workouts and media logs, total seconds for technical timing. A crossing past midnight is represented by one added day, not a calendar date.

When to use which
Use the age calculator when the span is anchored to calendar dates — how old someone is today, how old they will be at a school cutoff, or how many days old something is on a given date. It is the tool for any question that expects an answer in years, months, and days, and its date-only design keeps the result stable regardless of clock or time zone.
Use the time duration calculator when the question runs on the clock — the elapsed time between 9:15 and 13:45, the time an oven timer should be set, or what time an event ends after adding an interval. It is the tool for intervals measured in hours, minutes, and seconds, and for totals in a single unit for billing or logging. Neither calculator models time zones or daylight saving changes, so for elapsed time across zones — or for spans that must land on a specific date — combine either tool with a time-zone-aware workflow rather than trusting the raw result.
