Business Days Between Dates vs Time Duration
“How long is that, really?” is two different questions. If you are quoting a delivery window or a notice period, the answer usually runs on the working calendar: business days, excluding weekends and holidays. If you are timing a meeting, a shift, or a recording, the answer runs on the clock: hours, minutes, and seconds. The Business Days Between Dates Calculator counts the Monday-through-Friday days in a date span, with both endpoints included, then subtracts every holiday date you add that falls on a weekday inside the span. It also reports calendar days, weekend days, and full weeks, plus how many holidays actually reduced the count. A holiday that lands on a weekend changes nothing, and the count follows the ISO 8601 convention that weeks run Monday through Sunday. Its worked example counts August 3–28, 2026 (a Monday to a Friday) as 20 business days out of 26 calendar days, dropping to 19 if August 10 is added as a holiday.
The Time Duration Calculator measures between two clock times instead. It converts every time to seconds after midnight, subtracts start from end, and if the end is earlier than the start it adds one 24-hour day so the answer is the forward duration. Add and subtract modes wrap results back onto the daily clock, and supporting totals express the same span in decimal hours, minutes, or seconds — 13:30 to 17:45 becomes 4 hours 15 minutes, or 4.25 hours and 255 minutes. When to use which
