Tbsp to ml Converter
Tablespoons and milliliters both measure volume, so this conversion is direct. There is no ingredient lookup, no density table, and no difference between water and oil for the arithmetic. The calculator uses the US customary tablespoon factor: 1 tbsp = 14.78676478125 mL. If you enter tablespoons, it multiplies by that factor. If you switch the calculator to milliliters, it divides by the same factor.
This page is intentionally tablespoon-first. The three-tablespoon row is familiar because US kitchen measures define 1 tablespoon as 3 teaspoons. Three tablespoons are also close to 45 mL, which is why many recipe charts round aggressively. The exact US figure is lower by about 0.64 mL.
Spoon standards and recipe context
US, metric, and imperial spoon names overlap. A modern metric tablespoon is commonly 15 mL. A US tablespoon is 14.78676478125 mL. Some older or regional sources may use different household spoon assumptions. When the recipe source matters, look for clues: American recipes may use cups, fluid ounces, and tablespoons together; metric recipes may list grams and milliliters; older commonwealth recipes may deserve extra caution.
In everyday cooking, the difference between 14.78676478125 and 15 mL is usually smaller than the measuring error from a sticky spoon, a meniscus read from above, or a hurried pour.
