The three-tablespoon row is familiar because US kitchen measures define 1 tablespoon as 3 teaspoons. Three tablespoons are also close to 45 mL, which is why many recipe charts round aggressively. The exact US figure is lower by about 0.64 mL.
Spoon standards and recipe context
US, metric, and imperial spoon names overlap. A modern metric tablespoon is commonly 15 mL. A US tablespoon is 14.78676478125 mL.
