Inch to meter formula

One inch equals exactly 0.0254 meters.

$meters = inches \times 0.0254$

For example, 48 inches equals 1.2192 meters. To convert the other direction, divide meters by 0.0254.

The form’s reverse direction uses:

$inches = meters \times 39.3701$

Worked example

If a shelf is 72 inches long:

$72 \times 0.0254 = 1.8288$

The calculator reports 1.8288 meters. If you enter 2 meters and choose meters to inches, it returns about 78.7402 inches.
