This table intentionally uses whole-inch and foot-related values that commonly appear on tape measures and product labels. If your inch value includes fractions, convert them first: 3/4 in is 0.75 in, and 0.75 times 0.0254 is 0.01905 m.
Precision and significant figures
Four decimal places in meters correspond to tenths of a millimeter, which may be more precise than a hand measurement but useful for preserving common inch fractions. A value such as 12.000 in from a machined drawing deserves more precision than “about 12 in” from a rough tape reading. Keep the inch source in your notes so the conversion can be checked later.
When converting multiple dimensions, convert each source measurement accurately, but do not confuse length with area or volume.
