The water demand calculator computes daily gallons = people × events per person-day × gallons per event + other measured gallons per day. Annual gallons multiply the daily total by 365, and cost uses the entered rate per 1,000 gallons. Its worked example is two people times 5 events per day times 1.6 gallons per event, which is 16.0 gallons per day and 5,840 gallons per year. The page is explicit that it totals user-entered values and makes no climate, efficiency, or savings claim.
The shower water usage calculator computes gallons per shower = duration in minutes × flow rate in gallons per minute, then scales by showers per week, 52 weeks per year, and 12 average months. Cost combines a water rate and a heating rate per gallon: in the default example, an 8-minute shower at 2.5 gallons per minute uses 20.0 gallons, and at a combined rate of 0.024 dollars per gallon the cost is 0.48 dollars per shower, or 174.72 dollars per year at 7 showers per week. The page notes that most shower water is heated, so the same gallons appear on the energy bill as well as the water bill.

Use the shower water usage calculator when your question is about the shower specifically: what does one shower cost, how much would a shorter shower or a 2.0 gpm WaterSense fixture save, or how does the heating side of hot water change the bill? It is the tool that separates water cost from heating cost, which the household-level calculator does not do.

The water demand calculator totals whatever fixture, event, and other-use values you enter — it does not infer efficiency or savings — and the shower calculator covers delivered shower water only, not sinks, toilets, laundry, leaks, or irrigation. The shower’s heating cost is a user-entered per-gallon rate, not a water-heater model. Flow-rate benchmarks follow EPA WaterSense (2.5 gpm standard maximum, 2.0 gpm for labeled fixtures), but real installed flow can differ with pressure, buildup, and restrictors. Monthly and annual shower figures assume 52 weeks and 12 average months.
