When to use which
Use the cubic-feet-to-gallons calculator when the known quantity is a space measured in feet — a sump pit, planter bed, cabinet cavity, or room volume — and you want the water or liquid capacity in gallons. For a rectangular container, multiply length × width × depth in feet first, then convert.
Use the gallons-to-cubic-feet calculator when the known quantity is stated in gallons, such as a 55-gallon drum, an aquarium, or a pump manual’s minimum basin volume, and you need cubic feet to compare against a measured space or shipping volume. Both pages warn about the same real-world gaps: nominal tank sizes are not usable volume, dry bulk materials are not liquid gallons, and these are U.S. liquid gallons, not imperial gallons.
Limits and disclaimer
Both converters carry the exact 1,728/231 ratio and round only displayed values, but they are unit converters, not volume estimators. Neither accounts for wall thickness, substrate, headspace, fittings, or settlement, so treat results as the volume of the stated liquid, then leave margin for the container’s real behavior.
